NEW HAVEN —The Greater New Haven Help Alliance on Saturday will sponsor its second Annual Great Debate, featuring two of its youth-mentoring groups: Boys to Men and Daughter’s of Hope. They will debate whether or not parents have the right to monitor their children’s Internet access and to install Web access blockers as needed, event organizers said.
Boys to Men is a program designed to teach boys to be understanding, responsible men who are assets to their families, communities, and the younger generations who follow them. The vision driving the mission is men making themselves available in the cause of helping boys to become healthy, motivated, informed and capable men of noble character, organizer said.
Daughters of Hope is committed to developing positive qualities such as humility, optimism, purpose, and excellence in young women of faith in order to realize God’s plan for their lives, event organizers said. The primary goal is to promote a healthful adolescent spirit by using Godly principles and character-building activities to encourage a sense of purpose and personal power, better communication skills, a desire to achieve and a willingness to give back, the organizers said.
The Greater New Haven Help Alliance is a faith-based organization; it exists to promote healthful and connected communities that are rooted in well-nurtured families through an extended support environment. The goal is to assist young people to become engaged learners and provide families with a safe and supportive environment.
The debate will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday in the My Father’s Place Café located at 95 Hamilton St. The cost of admission is $5, and all proceeds will benefit the ProTeen Youth Center which is currently under development.
