EDITORIAL: DEEP should close Milford dump

The history of the dump, transfer station and recycling operation at 990 Naugatuck Ave. in Milford is a bad one. It should have been closed a long time ago. But shifting ownership of the business, at least on paper, has helped its operation continue and, according to one supposed owner, deceive state authorities. Read Story

EDITORIAL: UConn outgrows public television

It wasn’t about the money. The University of Connecticut decided that its women’s basketball team had outgrown Connecticut Public Television, its broadcast home for 18 seasons. It has dumped CPTV for SportsNet New York, a premium cable channel that is carried in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. SNY already broadcasts games of the university’s football team and men’s basketball team. Read Story

Maybe Sen. Richard Lugar’s successful opponent in the Indiana Republican primary was right when he said, “It’s time.” Lugar, 80, was seeking a seventh term. He hadn’t owned a house in Indiana since 1977, choosing to live in Washington full time. When pressed by reporters, Lugar seemed uncertain of his voting address. Read Story
